Dry Falls is located just near the southern end of Banks Lake, near Coulee City. The history behind this area is shown on a display board at the visitor centre. The great floods of eastern Washington were deduced by Harland Bretz, who during the 1920s criss crossed eastern Washington while figuring out how it all happened. Later, confirming evidence was found for his theory.
Overview of the falls. Just barely visible is the grain elevator from Coulee City (just visible in the large picture)
The lakes at the bottom of the former falls. These lakes were one of the major pieces of evidence used by Bretz when postulating his theory. There is no other obvious cause of the number of lakes located at the bottom of cliffs. One of the little bumps in the right lake is a fisherman in a boat, and there are a couple of cars parked in the grey area about mid right of the image.
Looking south, down Lower Grand Coulee.
The little white speck at the bottom of the cliff is a fisherman in a small boat!
The parking lot area - you can just make out the cars in the large image.
