The Roof Appears

Ah, a good sign upon entering the driveway - a pile of Colourbond roofing! And, even better, some of it is on the roof of the southern wing.

A closer view of the roof, and the valley where the southern and western wings meet. Also there is foiled backed insulation under the metal roof. One advantage of a metal roof is the small amount of thermal mass involved, so that the roof structure cools off rapidly when the sun goes down, helping to keep the house cooler during the long days of summer.

A view of the roof from the porch just outside the kitchen. The green material on the right hand edge is the ridge capping for the crown of the roof.

Looking up at the underside of the roof over the lounge room, showing the foil backed insulation under the steel roof.

Detailed view of the roof at the northern end of the western wing. Within the next day or so, this should be covered up too.

New Tool

Garry showing off his new tool belt! He's almost a real carpenter now.

Three, count 'em three, real pockets to hold assorted carpentry tools, nails etc. Garry was quite chuffed, and kept wondering why he hadn't bought a real one before now.

More Bricks

As I was about to leave, more bricks arrived. Not unexpected, as Boral's quality control leaves something to be desired - Chris estimates the reject rate of bricks is about 40% - that's one hell of a lot of unusable bricks. The issue is still being discussed.

The problem here was that the brick delivery fork lift could not deliver the bricks because the metal roofing was in the way. As I was leaving, it seemed the solution was to drop the load of bricks on the driveway, then use the forklift to move the metal out of the way and then deliver the bricks onto the site.
