Creeping Bricks

Ryan and Garry (not in this photo) are again working on the roof, now that the garage walls are up to finished height, as seen here from the front door.

Garry is clearing some room for a wood delivery - a couple of decent beams are required to support the garage ceiling, and Chris ordered them, and indeed they were delivered not long after this photo was taken.

A close up of the northern end of the garage. The outer brick wall (the garage exterior walls are double brick) will be finished once the wooden structure is complete, as the bricks need to match the slope of the roof, and it's easier to do that once the roof is complete.

The western courtyard, from the south west corner of the dining room. The bricks have crept all the way around the back of the house, the en-suite and are encroaching on the master bedroom.

Note the absence of brick layers. They were around in the morning, but the expected delivery of bricks did not arrive, and basically they ran out of bricks to lay. Chris had called Boral several times to find out where they were, but no answer was forthcoming. Then Chris lost his mobile phone, and was off trying to find/replace it while I was around.

It would be nice to think Boral's delay was to ensure the reject rate of bricks - about 30%, due to chips, cracks etc. - was being resolved. There are many unusable bricks left over.

The kitchen door was the last delivered. I think the delivery was done without anybody on site, and the door was just left. A day after installation, this crack was noticed. It seems to be an internal crack, as I could not feel it on the outside (though my fingers may not be very sensitive to this). And there are certainly no chips in the glass.
