A new cable was run from the power pole across the street, and the old line was sitting on the lawn. It was aluminium, which surprised me a little. Aluminium has some issues when used as power lines, as it oxidizes very nicely. And that increases the resitance of connections, and they can burn up quite nicely. There are ways to solve the problem, typically involving some sort of grease to cover the surface and block out the air. My last home in Seattle had aluminium wires coming in from the street, and the connections were covered in grease.
Can you tell it's been raining a bit of late? This is the trench for the footings for northern wall of the porch/verandah. The not very visible trench for the northern wall of the family room and kitchen is off to the left.
