On Glacier Point Road

A shorter waterfall down a sheer cliff with a lake above and below Vernal Falls are next in line on the Merced River. The small lake below the falls is formed by the falls wearing down the rocks over the centuries. This is easily seen in eastern Washington as many of these pools, created during the ice ages and fed with enormous floods from Montana, are now dry.
