Gray domed rock beyond trees and people near visitor centre A better view of Half Dome, making the half name clearer. Taken near the visitor centre at Glacier Point.

Distant scene of two waterfalls and plateau between them Vernal Falls (left, lower) and Nevada Falls (right, upper) as seen from Glacier Point.

Gray squirrel on top of low rock wall The local wildlife - probably expecting a feed. They are very tame, but then they see many people.

Looking down into valley with trees, then cliffs behind Looking down into the main tourist area in Yosemite Valley. The Visitor Center is just visible a little to the right of centre close to the cliff. A better view follows.

Looking down to valley floor, with roads and buildings visible The main visitor area in the valley. The main visitor centre is located at the upper right; also visible are parking areas and roads.

Y shaped building in among trees at the bottom of a cliff The Ahwahnee is a hotel within the valley. It's the structure in the middle of the photo. And note the rocks in the top left - these have come down from the cliffs above, and continue doing so. This photo's location is a little to the right of the one above.

Tree covered valley floor with gray cliffs beyond and hills behind The Ahwahnee is to the right of the brown grass in the lower left of this photo. The cliff behind is Royal Arches, with Sentinel Dome just showing in the upper right.

Tree covered valley floor extending into the distance, with gray cliffs on both sides Looking about east into the end (or should that be beginning) of Yosemite Valley, with Half Dome clearly visible on the right, and part of Royal Arches on the left.

Gray park vehicle with tray on back, small wheels A convenient way of travelling around the lookout area for those lucky enough to work in such a great location.

Tall pine trees along a road On the return journey we had to stop for road works. In the northern hemisphere, moss grows on the northern side of tree trunks, as shown here in abundance.

From here it was back to Mariposa for dinner and another good night's sleep.
