Sentinel Meadow is a place to stop and enjoy the scenery, which includes (to the left of this photo) the Merced River. The lump on the top left is Sentinel Dome. This view is looking east in the direction in which the valley narrows and ends.
Jeffrey walking away from the camera at Sentinel Meadow. The Merced River runs amidst the trees on the right, flowing away from here and down the valley, eventually into the Pacific Ocean.
A closer view of the cliff face on the northern wall. This is part of Royal Arches, and the arch is quite clear.
Looking east from Sentinel Meadow showing some of the other major rock structures. The peak about mid picture is Half Dome, which is clearly visible from commercial aircraft with its rather distinctive shape.
Looking east into the valley, showing the many cliff faces. Half Dome is the rock on the very top right of this photo.
Jeffrey and I had lunch here, and it was now time to continue on the expedition. This is part of the visitor centre, which was, needless to say, rather busy at eating time. And this is not peak tourist season, thank heavens! We also toured the museum/display area while here.
Then it was on to Glacier Point.
