pipe" at the top contains the cables which hold the bridge deck.

just around the corner, and the settlement visible on the
right of the image is Tiburon.
The whole Golden Gate Bridge, seen off the back of the boat
as we are heading towards Alcatraz Island's north side.
The western end of the island. These buildings are showing
signs of years of neglect, especially significant as the
island is very exposed to the weather.
Moving along the island.
The dock here was the transfer point for prisoners. That's
why there is a watchtower, which apparently had armed guards
when the prison was in use.

Coming back into the dock, showing parts of the Fisherman's
Wharf area. Also visible are the twin spires of Sts. Peter and Paul

The tour was over, so it was time to check out Fisherman's Wharf area on foot.
