Thinking it would be fun to ride one of the cable cars, we
walked towards Hyde Street. And along the way, we had
this view of the TransAmerica building.
And away we go - another full car on its way to Powell Street.
So the next car is readied to leave. First it goes onto the
turntable so that the driver will be at the front, and
thus can see any obstacle coming up.
As the cable which pulls the cars along the streets does not
operate in the turntable, human power is used to push it on
and off the turntable. But they are light enough for this to
be no problem.
After this, we parted ways. Yvonne and Peter were going to potter around the area, and I thought I would wander somewhere west and see what I could find.
Ghirardelli is a chocolate company. They used to make their
chocolate here, but the factory closed and the building was transformed into
a shopping centre (I believe).
When I started to take this photo, the seagulls were in a nice row.
But the second one along just had to be different.
The San Francisco Maritime Museum is in a building which looks like
a ship, of the 1950s ferry style, at least. This area is
all part of Aquatic Park.
And from the same location, this view looks over to Alcatraz Island.
From here it seemed like a good idea to walk out on the pier and see what the view is like from there.
