Green Mountain

While riding around Green Mountain Road, I was looking for a place to stop and take some photos. There was nowhere to pull over to the edge and stop safely, so I kept on until coming across a "For Sale" sign on a new housing development. So up I went, and lo and behold, it seemed safe to stop on the road and take some photos. And the road was climbing well above the road I had been on, so the views should be better!

Columbia River and large ship, Green Mountain, south of Kalama, WA

Looking towards the Columbia. I did pick up a brochure from one of the "For Sale" signs, and then the builder/developer drove past, and gave me an updated version. The view is quite impressive!

A closer view of traffic on the Columbia - a large, ocean going vessel headed upstream to Portland or beyond, and a barge heading downstream. And, of course, in 1805, the Lewis and Clarke expedition sailed down this waterway after their epic journey across the mountains.

Some of the homes on the development - and quite nice looking too. The one on the left was still under construction.

Another view from Green Mountain across Columbia River to Oregon

The view from the top. The GPS showed the elevation here as 1300 feet. Given the very steep road, and nasty winter weather, this could make it impossible to either arrive or depart from here during bad storms. Pity.

Another view from the end of the road, showing the river plains in Oregon beyond the Columbia.
