Into the Redwoods

Leaving Crescent City, the road climbs a minor hill with a view point.

Looking north towards Crescent City, which I guess is named after the shape of the bay!

By the side of the Redwoods, on US101 south of Crescent City

Not many places to pull off this highway, so one takes whatever place is available. At least it's easier on a bike!

Yet another large redwood tree on US101

Not exactly a small tree.

Combining two state symbols - the bear and golden state, on bridge over Klamath River on US101

The bridge over the Klamath River on US-101. Note that the bear combines two symbols of California. The state flag has a bear on it, and California is known as "The Golden State". There are four bears on the bridge - one on each "corner".

Coastal Drive

Looking south along northern California coast, from the old coast road

Just south of the above bridge, there's an alternative route called the Coastal Drive. A little travelled road, but with some nice views of the coastline.

A little dirt riding to reach the last location

However, sections of this route are a dirt road, of no great difficulty. And very little traffic too.
