Crescent City

On June 6th, I loaded up the "RT" and headed to Monterey, for the Usenix Annual Technical Conference. With little time constraints, riding was the obvious choice, and the coastal route preferred, especially as the weather was good for riding, and the inland route was heating up.

The first day's ride was from home, down I-5 to Grants Pass, Oregon, then US-199 (a very enjoyable road!) to Crescent City, California. I had reservations there, which was probably a good thing, as the motel was full, and I saw several people turned away. There was a tour bus in for the night, and a couple of other bikers headed to a rally in California.

This day's journey was down US-101 to Petaluma, which is a little north of San Francisco. I did not wish to travel through Friday night rush hour traffic to reach Palo Alto.

The Crescent City Lighthouse. This is no longer in use, and has been taken over by the local community as a tourist attraction.

Looking south along the coast from Crescent City, CA

Looking south along the coast from Beach Drive. It was quite a windy morning, and somewhat unpleasant for riding anywhere near the coast.

From Point St. George, just a little north of Crescent City. The white caps indicate how strong the wind was!
