The Trip To Pullman

May 24

Chase The Snake is a lightly organised motor cycle ride on the many excellent roads around Pullman, Washington. Originally initiated by Blackbear, the plan was to ride along the Snake River, crossing bridges and dams along the way. After September 11th, the dams have been closed to traffic, and so this aspect was not part of the 2002 journey. But first, I needed to cross the state! Pullman is located in south eastern Washington, close to Idaho, and not far from Oregon.

Ryegrass Rest Stop

This is a rest stop on I-90, just before descending to the Columbia River in Eastern Washington. This area is covered with many lava flows, as described by the information board.

Wild Horse Monument

Just across the Columbia, I-90 turns north before continuing east. Due to my confusion, I rode up there, rather than heading south before turning east. But, the silver lining is the discovery of the Wild Horse Monument.

As the person standing in the lower left corner indicates, these are a fairly decent size.

Vantage, WA, a small town to service travellers and the local tourist industry. The bridge in the above photo is just visible in the left of this picture. Note the dry terrain, a very different climate to the west side of the Cascade Mountains.
