On the way back to the motel to pack and leave, I took some daylight
photos of the dam wall, from front and back.
Normally the dam wall is open to traffic. And there are tours
of the power stations. However, all this was stopped due to
the attacks on the World Trade Centre and Pentagon. Although
the "closure" was a sign (Government Employees Only) leaning
against a traffic cone! Apart from honest folks, I'm not
sure who that is supposed to stop.
The dam wall, from the same location as the evening photos.
The eastern end of Coulee Dam City is the green patch above
the dam wall, and the sand pile is visible too.
A wide angle view showing the entire wall.
Sun reflecting on the water of Lake Roosevelt.
You can just make out the 90 degree turn in the dam wall.
The left part of the wall was added several decades after the
original construction. It was added to enable another
power station to be added. That also, I think, explains
why the power lines run across the front of the dam. The older
pwoer station wiring is built into the wall.
Looking from the visitor centre towards the eastern bank
part of Coulee Dam City. Also the connecting bridge,
and the lower visitor area.
Where I spent the night. My room is the upstairs one immediately
to the left of the pole with the light on iit.
