The Sunrise Visitor Center is at elevation 6400 feet, or 1950 metres. This makes it an alpine meadow style of vegetation, fairly fragile. Thus there are marked walking trails, and many notices requesting that visitors stay on the trails.
The Visitor Center is built in the style of the old west - log cabin! There are three buildings in this style; the one shown here has a twin (just protruding into this image on the top right). And there is a larger building off to the left.
The view from the Visitor Center. The large building is a cafeteria and small store. The alpine meadow is also clearly visible.
Taken from the same location as the above image, but looking to the right, or more to the south east.
Up close and personal. Mt. Rainier is not far from airline flight paths out of Seattle, and this part of the world seems rather prone to forming vapour trails, which is what can be seen in this image.
These peaks are on a spur running East of the main peak. They are a quite distinctive appendage, clearly visible from many parts of Washington state. We're also up in the clouds!
Further information about Mt. Rainier, and the National Park, is available from The National Park Service web page.
