Kununurra to Derby

SJR21.d11: Aboard the flight to Purnululu airport

We flew from Kununurra to the Savannah Lodge in the Purnululu National Park, which includes the Bungle Bungles.

South Purnululu

After landing at Purnululu Airport we are taken by bus to Cathedral Gorge.

SJR21.d11: Piccaninny parking area, view of bee hives

One of the "beehive" hills which are characteristic to this area. The sandstone structures have their colour bands from properties of clay content and porosity of material. The orange bands are of oxidised iron that dry out too quickly for cyanobacteria to multiply; the grey bands have cyanobacteria growing on the surface.

SJR21.d11: around fire after dinner at Savannah Lodge

The area was quite cold, due to winds coming in from the Tanami Desert. So we stayed around the fire pit after dinner.

To Derby

We flew back to Kununurra where our coach was waiting, and off we went.

SJR21.d15: In the bus, with seats removed

Our coach was quite luxurious by removing half the seats!

Sunset at Derby

Derby has a very high range of tide variation between low and high. The difference will be seen in the forthcoming [maybe fifthcoming] video.
