At Mt. Stromlo, I set the GPS to take me to the Botanic Gardens. Which it mostly did. However, it's location for the Gardens appears to be wrong. The Gardens are located at the foot of Black Mountain, north of the road to Telstra Tower. The GPS thought it was south of that road, and directed me part way up the mountain before suggesting a left turn, off into the bush, and down a rather steep slope. My Corolla would not have liked that; neither would I, come to think of it! So it was a case of finding a place to turn around (there was one part way up, fortunately) and heading down, turning left, driving a 100 metres or so and turning left into the gardens.
To quote from the Gardens' web page about this exhibition:
A former computer consultant and accomplished seamstress, Lynne has perfected her techniques over the past ten years, with astonishingly lifelike results. White thread is fashioned with a variety of tools including a computerised embroidery machine, sewing machine, surgeon’s forceps, flyfishing gadgets and a soldering iron. After stitching the work is tinted with specially prepared dyes.
The artworks demonstrate remarkable attention to detail, and are the product of carefully observing and recording the features of individual specimens. Some leaves and flowers even include natural blemishes and insect damage.
Alas, I was not able to really figure out which of the following flowers belonged to which type of eucalyptus, and what I thought it meant did not make sense to me, so let the botanical experts decide!
Note that these were all under glass, which degrades the quality of the image, especially the detailed views.
