A different panorama of Bergen, this one from just below the restaurant. Note that the Bryggen area and its attractions are not visible from this vantage point.
Looking roughly north. The ship on the right hand side is some sort of ferry, and Bryggen is just visible on the right hand side.
Our hotel is just on the left (red roof); also the Rosenkrantz Tower and Bergenhus Fort area about mid picture. The fort is now mostly a green parkland area. These areas (and more!) are highlighted on the map photo.
"Downtown Bergen", with a lack of high rise buildings, maintains a pleasant scale for a city area. And Bergen is Norway's second most populous city!
The lake (just visible in the photo above on the left edge) is Lille Lungegårdsvann. The buildings "above" it are several museums and galleries. The glass and concrete building behind these is Grieghallen, home of the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra and (obviously) named after Edvarg Grieg.
Looking roughly west, over Bergen and towards the ocean.
The train arriving at the upper station. Yes, the "carriage" really is inclined at a steep angle. And you can see parts of Bergen too.
All aboard!
Looking through the train to the fish market area of Bergen.
