As we were adjacent to our hotel, the funicular (cable driven railway) was just a few blocks away. And since it goes to the top of a 320m (1050 feet) mountain overlooking Bergen, it seemed a good destination. So a group of us headed that way - from memory it was Annette, Karen, Signe, Joey and me. Though we "lost" Annette and Karen at the top - I think we went right, and they went left, and never the twain did meet.
Looking north (sort of) along Øvregaten. Our hotel was somewhere to the left, behind the trees. And the gray building behind the bus convention is Mariakirken - more about that later.
And looking the other direction along Øvregaten, towards the funicular station, which is not visible.
Later in the day I took this photo showing one of the funicular cars and the upper station, as well as part of the restaurant building (the one on the right).
As I mentioned, we "lost" Annette and Karen when we reached the top, but they were at dinner, so nothing untowards must have happened.
Ah, a panorama of Bergen. Yes, it was worth coming up. But note there are rain drops on the camera lens - of course it started to rain! Note the white structure on the lower right is part of the top funicular station.
Not wanting to waste the fare, I suggested that we have a light lunch in the restaurant and wait for the rain to stop.
Joey and Signe with the remnants of our meal. And also the large Norwegian flag, and some of the more remote parts of Bergen.
By the time we finished lunch the rain had moved on and so it was time to venture forth and enjoy the view to its utmost.
