Leaving the boat from the island I walked along the docks back to the hotel, with the intention of throwing out some of the no longer relevant material (i.e. papers) that I had for the Danish part of the tour.
Nearing the car ferry dock, I was somewhat surprised to see a 1957 Buick Special, in excellent condition for a 47 year old car! It's something of a contrast to the more modern harbour master's building behind.
The Buick against the backdrop of a Norwegian fjord - quite unexepected.
This is what Norwegian beds look like after room service has finished for the day. The "thing" on top of the bed is a warm cover (duvet, comforter - whatever it's called in your part of the world) folded over in thirds. The only real problem we all had with this system (Copenhagen had a similiar covering, although it was left spread over the bed) is that it was a one temperature fits all. It's either on or off, and I would have liked it on about 1/3.
The consequence was that one goes to bed, pulls it over you and then wakes a few hours later quite hot. Throw it off, then wake up cold. I do find this strange. Perhaps there is a Scandinavian way to sleep, which was not obvious to any of us.
Another viwew of my room. As with the above photo, I was standing in the corner in order to get as much in as possible. It was quite a small room, as the above photo shows the bed almost reaches the wall behind me. But, of course, as we were not entertaining in our rooms, the small size was OK.
Part of the bathroom. Actually, the non-shower part of the bathroom. Sitting down was almost a case of going side saddle! Certainly was a "neat" fit to get everything in there.
The hotel had recently undergone extensive renovations, and so I did wonder if perhaps these rooms did not originally have a bathroom, and one was added during renovation. I didn't think to ask at the front desk.
The other part of the bathroom. NOTE there is no lip on the shower stall. And, as there is not all that much slope on the floor, the water creeps up the floor (towards the toilet) during a shower. Made it difficult to put much on the floor and be confident that it would remain dry. The shower was otherwise quite OK. Note also that the glass door only comes half way across, which only adds to the water problems!
