One of the concerts we had thought of attending today was in an outdoor venue. Given the rain of this morning, that seemed most unlikely. However, the rain cleared nicely, and it turned into a very pleasant evening, so Jim, Signe and I headed off to see the Danish Radio Big Band, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary. The concert was at some place called Nytorv, which we couldn't quite decipher from the map, as it had no street address.
Again, a taxi served the purpose very well, dropping us off at the "New Square"! The driver also gave us a Danish lesson - Ny, pronounced as "neu" means new, and torv means square, or plaza.
And being a radio broadcast (probably live, and there was a TV camera there too), it started exactly on time, and finished exactly on time. It was just a phenomenal concert, especially given the price!
The band leader/conductor, Nikolaj Bentzon, introducing the show.
The first guest artist was singer Eiviør Pálsdottir from the Faroe Islands. She was very good too, even though we understood not a word.
Part of the crowd in the square, and also some ominous clouds. More rain on the way? Fortunately, it stayed dry all night.
And surprise guest saxophonist Benny Golson, who stayed on for much of the concert.
Alas, I have no idea who the drummer is, but he played very vigourously.
And some more anonymous artists - the trio were also good, and got the audience pariticipating - for some definition of participate!
After the concert, Jim and Signe went off to join other members of the group for an indoor concert, but I decided to skip that one and take some evening photos - a great time of the day for pictures.
