So we waddled back to the bus after another very enjoyable lunch. But there were a few members of the party with regrets about not buying anything from the vinyard, so we stopped there on the way back. In fact, I think this was planned before we left, as we had a fixed time to be at the restaurant for lunch, and we were running a little late at the vinyard, so shopping (which can take quite some time) was deferred until after lunch.
The journey back was uneventful. When nearing Montreal, we detoured to Ile Ste Helene, one of the two islands housing Expo 67. While on the bridge to the island, this view of the Olympic Stadium occured. The image is poor as it was taken out the window of the bus, and there was interference from the bridge structure. This was built for the 1976 Olympic Games. The triangular shaped building to the right is part of the athlete's village.
A view of downtown Montreal from Ile Ste Helene, including the Sailor's Memorial Clock Tower (the white tower to the left of the largest bush in the foreground).
The former American pavillion at Expo 67 - the Buckminster Fuller dome. Originally it was covered in plastic sheeting, but that caught fire and was removed completely.
The view from the other side of the dome, which is now the Biosphere, an exhibit about the Great Lakes and St. Lawrence River ecosystem, which holds 20% of the world's fresh water.
The wider view.
After the concert it was off to the Hyatt for a drink before heading home. We joined the crowd at the "Manouche" gypsy music performance at one of the lesser stages. Very energetic, very enjoyable and much appreciated by the crowd.
An evening view of the Place des Arts from my hotel room. This was about 8:15PM, and the crowds were still large.
A wider angle view of Montreal at night, including the Place des Arts.
But then it was time for bed, in anticipation of another active day tomorrow.
