The view from my room at the Aurelia Gardens Hotel. What surprised me is the rural nature of this scene, given the relatively short distance from the Vatican. Of course, there's also a valley behind the row of trees in the middle, and there's a major road and rail line and shops hidden in there. But I was still amazed at how compact Rome is. Presumably because most of the occupants live in apartments.
Mass in progress over the remains.
Peter and I then walked into the Villa Borghese and spent a pleasant time strolling around and having a light lunch. Peter is standing in front of the Temple of Aesculapius on an island in an ornamental lake.
Just to prove that even Italians can design ugly buildings! The tower just doesn't belong with the rest of this building. Ugh.
