Misty Fjords National Monument I

The crossing was not too rough - the swell was coming from behind, which apparently makes it easier for us. However, the weather was quite miserable, and it was nice to be inside a heated cabin watching the world go past!

Southern tip of Alaska, probably near Tongass, Dixon Entrance

The southern tip of Alaska, probably near Tongass, the most southerly town in Alaska, I suspect.

Lighthouse, probably near Cape Fox, Alaska

A lonely light house in the wilds of Alaska. This is just a little north of Cape Fox.

Misty Fjords National Monument

The southern end of Alaska is the location for the Misty Fjords National Monument. As you'll see, the name is very appropriate!

Continuing north, we once again entered waters protected from the fury of the Pacific Ocean. We then entered the Behm Canal for lunch and sightseeing. It was actually out of the way, as we were now quite close to tonight's destination of Ketchikan. The tour was well worth it!

Tree covered island on Behm Canal near New Eddystone Rock, Alaska

One of many tree covered islands we passed.

New Eddystone Rock

Part way along the Behm Canal is the New Eddystone Rock, a very obvious landmark, and shipping obstacle. Though unlike it's namesake, there's no light house here!

New Eddystone Rock (left) and other islands in Behm Canal

It's the one on the left.
