The journey begins in earnest as we move slowly out of the Locks, before the tug behind us (not used by us) is about to start off too.
A couple of the passengers watching the world go by as we pull further out of the Locks, and the tug behind starts to move.
The tug is now under way as we are moving further out.
The tug passing under the rail bridge as we say farewell to the Locks, and to Seattle.
One solution to the "Where do I put the boat?" problem!
Houses on the southern shore of the channel leading to the Ballard Locks. Prime waterfront land, even at low tide.
Not such easy access to the water, but definitely with better views. Note that the lighter coloured part of the cliffs is probably concrete designed to protect the houses during wet winters. Much of Seattle is built on dirt, and given the appropriate winter weather, hill sides have been known to slide.
Houses a little further from the channel, but still nicely located.
