The Vergola representative was due to arrive at 1PM to prepare a quote for installing a system over the western courtyard. This is an electrically operated metal louvre system, which allows in the sun when desired, but blocks it during hotter periods. It's also keeps out the rain if required. However Marc called to ask if he could come earlier, as he was running ahead of schedule. Not a problem, as we would both arrive at about the same time. Indeed, we arrived within about a minute of each other.
What a surprise - the concreters were in, and had almost finished pouring the porch! Chris told me yesterday that they would be on site Thursday or Friday. But it turns out today's job was cancelled, so they showed up ready to pour the porch - except nobody was expecting it, and there was a great rush to get everything ready!
The western end of the porch, which also includes a staircase to the ground, but removed from the driveway end to discourage callers from using the porch rather than the front door.
Finishing off the porch at the "big end" near the kitchen. Some of the reinforcing mesh is left on the family room floor.
The brickies are on the front of the east wing - a scene of much activity. Since my last visit, the windows and lounge room door frame have been installed.
The laundry door, as seen from outside the lounge room. The security bars in the accompanying window are more clearly visible in this photo than the previous day's shots.
The eastern wall brick laying operations are at the stage of needing scaffolding, as seen here along the eastern wall of the garage (and as viewed from outside bedroom 4).
I was surprised to see the hose down the back of the brick wall, and then I saw the water coming out of the weep holes at the bottom (between the hoser's legs!). A few seconds thought makes it clear what is happening - there will be random bits of cement dropping down from the back of the bricks, so the hose will wash some of that off the bricks, and then flush it out the weep hole, thus making sure the weep holes can weep. This is the western wall of the eastern wing.
