The Big Pour II

After the concrete pour, I had some lunch then returned to observe the finishing. Chris mentioned that it would be helicoptered which I took to not mean that a helicopter would fly over to dry things off.

This machine is called (or nicknamed, not sure which) a helicopter, and it's not exactly hard to see why. Under the guard at the bottom are four blades which rotate on the cement, smoothing it out extremly well. The left photo is the overview, the right hand (taken from the other side) shows one of the blades.

I arrived at smoko time, so there is no activity here. This is the view from the back of the master bedroom, looking north. The surface here has been smoothed by the first of the two helicopters, the blades of which appeared to be spinning faster than the second one.

Both helicopters in operation, now that smoko is over. The left hand one is the slower rotating one, and also has an assistant to smooth out the areas such as corners where a round object cannot reach.

The slow, final finish operation in bedroom 4.

This is a close up of the floor at the northern end of the family room. This is the unfinished section, i.e. the helicopters have not visited yet! Pretty good for just a hand finish and level by eye.

The first helicopter working on the kitchen area, as the afternoon progresses. And not long before the dew will start descending. Fortunately, no rain is forecast. (And none fell, either!).

Looking north west from the south east corner. Bedroom 4 is on the right, bedroom 3 on the left. The second helicopter is performing the final finish on the dining room floor.

From the same location as above, but looking more north over the WC and bathroom. That area is left with a broom sweep, as there will be tiles placed here too. But the presence of moisture is more likely, so the rougher surface gives better grip.
