Retaining Wall

Eastern End Western End
After a day or so, the rear retaining wall has been finished, and by good luck, today was the day to fill the concrete blocks with concrete! So I decided to wait and watch. The above two photos show how the ends of the wall dodge around the sewer man holes along the back wall.

The view from the north east corner of garage, showing the filled in garage, upon which the floor will be laid, but also the entirety of the rear wall.

From the south east corner of the block, showing the bathroom and WC plumbing and the filled in garage.

Plumbing

Plumbing for the en-suite, on the southern western corner.

The plumbing for the powder room - adjacent to the front door. The pipes in the background are left overs from those which Dave the plumber bought with him last week. They will be used, just not now.

From the north east corner of the porch, showing the drain for the kitchen sink, and further back, the powder room.

Concrete Operations

Ah, the concrete pumper has arrived. This is the small truck, as opposed to the larger truck of last time. Small enough to drive directly onto the block.

The working end of the concrete pump. I must admit that looking into the hopper (before the concrete arrived!) was not especially enlightening. It appears the concrete is sucked into the hole on the lower left, then comes out the pipe to the right of that hole. The pipe comes out the back and connects to the hose/piping to deliver the concrete.

Ah, the concrete truck arrives. Being a smaller truck, it can back up the driveway - both because it will fit, and will not damage the drive.

Getting the concrete truck into the correct position to feed into the pumper's hopper.

As the concreters are getting ready to start, Garry (left) and Ryan (right) and Phil (backhoe) are continuing to distribute the dirt to fill the area around the walls in preparation for getting the slab set to pour.

Getting ready to pump the concrete into the wall.

Pump away. That's going to be one strong wall - especially being laid on rock, with steel rods drilled into the underlying rock.

Team work in action. The crew on the right move along filling the hollow bricks, and the man on the left follows to level out the top.
