Castle like building, and a number of others, on a tree covered hilltop Hearst Castle as seen from the Visitor Center, which is on the coast highway. The day was hazy, so this photo has been tweaked to remove as much of the haze as is practical.

Man with back to camera, looking over pool towards stairs and trees The Neptune, or outdoor pool. The main building is up and to the left of this photo.

People around pool, with white marble statues and colonades Our very helpful and knwoledgable tour guide started herding cats at this stage. But she got us pretty much into line! This is looking roughly west at the Neptune pool.

Greek temple facade on the north side pool with view to distant hills You can't see the pool, but it is in front of the white marble facade you can see. The hills beyond are to the north.

Inside Casa Del Monte

Case Del Monte, the house of the mountains, was the first built here, and as you might expect from its name, it faces north to the mountains.

Large room, several sofas, table and chairs and other stuff The sitting room of Casa Del Monte. The round thing on the floor is a fan, designed to circulate the air; tourists increase the humidity from perspiring!

Bed against wall with semi-circular tapestry; tour guide and woman nearby One of the bedrooms in Casa Del Monte, with Yiwen and our tour guide.

View to distant hills over balcony This is a different bedroom - the main one, with a view to the distant hills, and a balcony. I don't think there was a direct door onto the balcony.

Ornate bed in front of tapestry hanging on wall My notes state this is not Cardinal Richeleau's bed, although it looks as though it could have been! However, there is a claim to fame - Winston Churchill slept here.

Tourists leaving the building via a three sided courtyard Yiwen, Lu and Jeffrey on their way out of the casa before heading to the main building.

To Casa Grande

Case Grande was the last section to be built, and was never really finished - the rear is still preliminary, with plain concrete walls.

Front of tall, white building with twin towers and stairs up to the front Jeffrey and Lu photographing something in front of the "castle".

White marble statue on a column in front of four storey building Perhaps they were photographing this statue, in front of this side of Casa Grande.
