Hearst Castle as seen from the Visitor Center, which is on the coast highway. The day was hazy, so this photo has been tweaked to remove as much of the haze as is practical.
Our very helpful and knwoledgable tour guide started herding cats at this stage. But she got us pretty much into line! This is looking roughly west at the Neptune pool.
You can't see the pool, but it is in front of the white marble facade you can see. The hills beyond are to the north.
The sitting room of Casa Del Monte. The round thing on the floor is a fan, designed to circulate the air; tourists increase the humidity from perspiring!
This is a different bedroom - the main one, with a view to the distant hills, and a balcony. I don't think there was a direct door onto the balcony.
My notes state this is not Cardinal Richeleau's bed, although it looks as though it could have been! However, there is a claim to fame - Winston Churchill slept here.
