Upon entering the main prison block, we join this queue. While
moving along, we have time to observe the shower facilities,
which are on the left hand side. No privacy here! At the end
of our queue, we are given headsets to describe a tour through
the block, and which also describes the scene before our eyes.
Works quite well.
This is
Michigan Avenue.
Well, that's what it was named! There are three "avenues", each
with 3 floors of cells, each cell holding just one prisoner.

This cell is set as it would be for a new inmate. The paper on
the blanket contain the rules. Spartan, to say the least.
The recreation yard - not very inviting, being concrete. But at
least it's outdoors. The fog bank in mid image hides the Golden
Gate Bridge.
These cells were for the misbehaving prisoners. The ones on the
lowest level at this end are the real solitary confinement cells.
This is a "regular" cell in this area, but note that it is more
spartan than the others cells - no table, bed attached to wall.

This is the library area. It's adjacent to "D Block" (behind the wall
on the left), and looking out to one of the three rows of cells in
the centre of the building.
