Now that I was more familiar with my surroundings, it was time to do some exploring around Canberra.
The view from my room at the Canberra Rex. But now I knew that this building is Fenner Hall! And notice the clouds starting to appear. Yesterday was clear and sunny the whole day.
The War Memorial is in the lower left with the domed roof from which Anzac Parade leads to Lake Burley Griffin. Directly across the lake is the very visible old Parliament House, and behind that, though not as visible, is the new Parliament House, with its enormous flag pole. The new building is harder to see because it is somewhat underground. And off to the right is the Captain Cook Fountain.
A closer view of the Parliament Houses - the old one is the white building, and the new one is the green building behind it. And behind that is Red Hill, where I would visit later today.

A magpie keeping watch over visitors to Mt. Ainslie.
Fenner Hall is the two buildings (end on view) in the middle of this photo, with the white roof building between them. This latter area is where last night's party was held. NOTE: Fenner Hall has migrated to the ANU campus.
An approximately 300 degree panorama of Canberra from Mount Ainslie composed from 9 individual photos. The horizon probably doesn't twist around quite as much as seen here, but I was hand holding the camera which I think explains the variation.
