Mothers Day

Mothers Day was May 14th this year, and there was a combined Mothers Day event with the Crofts and Harris families at Thirroul, which is south of Sydney, and might almost be considered a northern suburb of Wollongong.

Mother's Day at Thirroul: base camp

I travelled down with Peter and Yvonne, and as we were leaving the southern end of Sydney, Michelle called asking if we knew where it was. So we pulled off and waited for them to catch up - which was much longer than we expected, given where Michelle said they were when she called! Never did find out what caused the delay!

After winding through several streets in Thirroul, we found the seaside park, and there were the Crofts - Rick and Lorraine, and their other two sons Stewart and Boyd with their families. We'd found the right park!

The area is not quite as barren as the first photo indicates. With the lack of rain over the last couple of years, even adjacent to the beach, the grass is brown, although the escarpment behind is still green.

Mother's Day at Thirroul: Kelly and Cooper Wallace

Then Kelly arrived with Cooper - Glenn was working and could not make it.

And Cooper was quite happy to be there, especially when he can see his mum.

Mother's Day at Thirroul: Flynn Crofts with his shells collected from the beach

The youngsters had been off to the beach, and Flynn was proud of the shells he had collected, although apparently not proud enough to show them clearly to the camera!

Yvonne with Cooper and Flynn, who seems quite fascinated by Cooper - perhaps because Cooper is smaller than Flynn! Although the rate at which Cooper is growing, it's not exactly obvious how long that will last!

Dam Building

Ah, a wonderful place to build a dam - plenty of building material, and a good flow of water to dam up!

Teamwork is how to build it!

Time to check out how well the design is working - what's the weak spot here? [Actually, there was no overflow, which is a bit of a serious oversight! That was fixed after I suggested what needed to be done.]

Looking north along the coast, although the dam builders weren't too interested.
