Moving And Packing

Packing on October 17th/18th

After 17 years in Seattle, the time had come to return to Sydney. Following several months of talking with movers and a whole bunch of other people, moving day had finally arrived. This was a two day operation - first day for packing almost all the stuff going, with the second day being to pack those items missed the first day, and then to put it all in the twenty foot container for transport over the oceans. It turned out that a less than full container was cheaper than making several smaller packages and placing them in some other container going the same way. The latter is also subject to the vagaries of getting a full load, and the possibility of items being incorrectly split up at the destination.

Study all packed up pre-move

My office in boxes. It certainly encourages a deep throwing out of stuff, as it's about $US1.30 per pound to ship back! And books are heavy - the book case was pretty full.

Kitchen all packed pre-move

The kitchen's all packed too, and this includes some stuff from the family room, from where this photo was taken.

Formal living room all packed

The formal living room becomes the informal staging area! The dining room table (as most furniture) was not going on a sea voyage! The person near the front door is Josh, one of the movers and shakers, so to speak :-)

Formal living room all packed

The formal living room as seen from the stairs. The pile of "junk" in the middle was taken to the PC recyclers, despite repeated attempts to find people interested in this fine quality merchandise!

Upstairs office packed for move back to Sydney

The upstairs office all packed and awaiting transport to the container sitting outside.
