After Avon Dam comes Nepean Dam, just a hop, skip and a jump away. More or less.
Construction started in 1925, was delayed by the Depression and finished in 1935. The dam did not reach full capacity until October 1938, due to a drought. The dam was strengthened in 1992.
Just the road leading from the dam. Very different to the countryside around Seattle!
The wall, showing (lower right) some of the 1992 additions. The rock face on the far side is the location of the spillway.
The wall from the spillway side.
The spillway entrance. The concrete structure runs a long way down the valley wall before ending. It might just be a spectacular waterfall when/if there is significant rainfall.
Looking down the front of the wall, showing the water being released into the river (to be removed downstream and fed into the Sydney water supply), and also (top right) the long spillway.
