Walking Day 1

June 26th

This was the first of my free days, so I went for a walking tour. I find walking is a good way to figure out where things are located. Of course, I took the map with me. Fortunately the hotel was across the street from the Prudential building (they're an insurance/finance company), which is visible from many parts of Boston, and thus acted as a fine reference point.

This map has the walk drawn in. I left the hotel, heading for the Charles River which separates Boston from Cambridge (in the sense that Sydney Harbour separates Sydney from North Sydney).

Commonwealth Avenue

Commonwealth Ave, Boston MA

Commonwealth Avenue runs roughly parallel to the Charles River, running from the west into downtown. It is a beautiful street, with a very generous garden strip down the middle.

Commonwealth Ave, Boston MA, showing Prudential Building

Ah, the Prudential building! As I said, it is quite a landmark. Note also the terrace (or row) houses. Depending upon the neighbourhood, these seemed to be either single family, or multiple family (I presume one per floor).

The Charles River
