View looking north up the Hood Canal, somewhere near Hoodsport. The bush with the yellow flowers in the foreground is Scotch Broom which grows in the wild here. When it flowers like this, it is quite pretty. Unfortunately the flowers don't last very long, and for much of the year it is rather unattractive.
Means of transport for the day. Also looking south on Hood Canal, from the same location as the photo above.
Port Townsend was once a thriving settlement, rivalling Seattle. However, the fame was short lived, as the railway was built to Seattle, making the latter the pre-eminent port on the Sound. Port Townsend went into decline, but has revived quite nicely.
From the ferry dock, looking roughly south, showing the Olympic Mountains, including Mt. Olympus, as well as the local paper mill.
A closer view of Mt. Olympus.
