Nisqually Delta

March 6

Heading south from Seattle on I-5, just before Olympia is a turn off to the town of Old Nisqually, which I have been meaning to visit for some time. So today was the day - a delightful spring (well, almost) day. The Interstate travels quite close to the mouth of the Nisqually River, through the Nisqually delta (epicentre of the recent earthquake, I believe). The Nisqually Land Trust page describes the area, which starts on the slopes of Mt. Rainier.

Bike at Luhr Beach, Nisqually Delta (boat launching ramp)

Examination of the map showed a boat launching ramp near the mouth of the Nisqually River, which I eventually stumbled across. This photo shows Mt. Rainier poking out above the ridge which is north of the river mouth.
