Down the Coast thence Home

Lake Quinault

After leaving the Hoh Rain Forest, the road heads toward the coast, which it follows for about 15 miles before heading inland again.

Lake Quinault, south end of Olympic National Park

This is Lake Quinault, a very pleasant area, with an historic lodge, which has recently been renovated. As you can tell, it was a very calm day!

Lake Quinault, south end of Olympic National Park

Same location, just look more north than west. This is on the edge of Olympic National Park, which includes the mountain visible.

Ocean Beaches

Leaving Highway 101, I headed off to the ocean beaches, north of Grays Harbour. Upon reaching the coast, the road follows the coast line, but often behind beach front property, so not much of the ocean is visible.

Washington Coast, south of Pacific Beach

This is a little south of Pacific Beach, as best I can remember.

Same place, slightly different view.

The Ferry Ride Home

I followed the coast to Ocean Shores, which is at the northern headland of the entrance to Grays Harbour. Then back tracking a little, through Hoquiam, Aberdeen, Shelton, Belfair and Bremerton before reaching Kingston, the western end of the ferry to Edmonds, which is the closest to home for me.

Motorcycles off first; let the race begin

As motorcycles are loaded first (or last, if you are late), there is something of a gaggle of bikes when vehicles can leave the ferry.

Cars and trucks follow

These are large ferries, carrying about 200 vehicles, and 2500 passengers.
