Forks/La Push

After leaving Neah Bay, I backtracked along SR 113, but at the junction with 112, continued along 113, which headed back to Highway 101. From there it was just a few miles to Forks, the only large town in the region. The major industry has been timber, but recent downturns in that industry have had a toll on the west coast communities.

I have no photos of Forks proper, as there was nothing especially distinctive about it (from a photographer's viewpoint). It was sad to notice that one of the main downtown stores was closing after 52 years of business.

La Push

Forks is a few miles inland. The road to the coast leads to the settlement of La Push.

Unfortunately it was difficult to find a good location to photograph the "islands" just off shore from the town. So, believe me, these are islands!

It was also difficult to photograph due to the position of the sun. This was late in the day, and the sun was behind the islands, thus loosing a good deal of detail on this side.

Olympic Mountains, on the road from La Push to Forks, WA

On the road back to Forks, the snow capped Olympic Mountains come back into view. This may be Mt. Olympus, the highest peak on this side of Puget Sound.
