Brisbane to Sydney

There was probably another box of slides before these; however they are nowhere to be found. This was the return home from a journey during the May school holidays.

Queensland

Volcanic plug peak in forested country

No question where this is - the Glass House Mountains, north of Brisbane. The volcanic plug visible here is Mt. Coonowrin, one of a number of peaks in this area.

Another visitor coming to the lookout in the Glass House Mountains to admire the view. The volcanic plug in the background is Mt. Tibrogargan.

Wooden observatory and cars atop hill

The lookout area for the Glass House Mountains. I presume the building is a fire watch tower rather than a viewing facility for the public. The mountain in the back is likely Mt. Tibrogargan. The car on the left is Dad's, and I believe that's Barry standing just behind it.

Another, larger volcanic plug seen from across road

Mt. Lindesay, which is just inside New South Wales, this photo taken from Queensland. The road has not improved any (as of 2010) since this photo was taken. But then, the traffic volume likely hasn't changed much either.

Another section of the Mt. Lindesay Highway.

Part of small city with A Frame church and 5 storey building

Took much effort to track this location down. But finally it turns out to be Lismore (or rather a small part of Lismore). The quite distinctive church on the lower left finally clinched it after many hours searching, and looking at satellite images. It's the Lismore Baptist Church. And the building on the right is part of Lismore Base Hospital.

Couple of fishing boats tied up to a wharf on a river

Most likely this is the Richmond River at Ballina. Though it could also be the Clarence River, but the river doesn't look right for that. The next photo is from the banks of the Clarence River, so that more or less limits this one to the Richmond near Ballina or the Clarence.

Hexagonal church, light coloured bricks and small spire

Finally tracked this down to Cowper, a small community on the banks of the Clarence River (behind camera) between Grafton and Maclean. The (now defunct) Catholic Churches of Australia web site was the clincher. It's an unofficial site dedicated to photographing all the Catholic Churches in Australia. All volunteer, and with photos of churches in some places I did not know existed.
