Dad drove to Brisbane and we then caught a plane (Vickers Viscount, a 4 engine turboprop) to Cairns via Townsville, arriving after dark.
The yellow area on the right is a now long gone issue with film cameras. The beginning of the roll is, naturally, exposed to light. When installing the film in the camera, more of the film becomes exposed as it is dragged out of the canister to wind onto the takeup spool before closing the back of the camera. Normal practice then is to take a couple of dummy shots to ensure there is unexposed film across the back to receive the image. Sometimes, that wasn't quite enough. Hence the yellow area on the right must have been partially exposed.
Our first tour was via bus to some falls. I don't recall the name, but do remember some of the aspects of the journey. We joined a regular tour bus in Cairns and were driven out to a sugar cane farm, whereupon we transferred to a much older, and smaller bus. Which was extracted from long grass, very long grass, knee high long grass. Despite assurances from the driver, we entered with some trepidation.
The tour then continued along what I presume would have been a narrow road - too wide for the original bus. We did arrive safely, and without any moments of terror as some nasty crawled out from under the seats of the bus.
The stream is flowing at a good rate of knots; it is, after all, the end of the wet season in Far North Queensland (FNQ).
This was not one large fall but rather a series of smaller ones, perhaps better called a cascade.
This seems to have been the final cascades, as there are no more photos from here. It's too long ago to remember if there was a substantial waterfall, but I imagine there would have been a photo, had that been the case.
