After leaving The Little Mermaid, we headed inland somewhat towards Kongens Have or King's Garden. Located within this area is Rosenborg Slot/Castle, a Dutch Renaissance style building containing ballrooms, halls and reception chambers, while maintaining an intimate feeling. An adjacent treasury contains the royal jewels.
In 1849 the absolute monarchy was abolished, and most royal castles became state property. However, Rosenberg was excepted, and to this day belongs to the monarch.
These soldiers are part of the Royal Guard. Note the Royal Standard flying on the barracks at the right. This flag differs from the regular Danish flag by having a triangular area missing from the right hand side, as is visible in this photo.

The western side of the Castle, which was built by Christian IV as a summer residence. But he loved it so much that he ended up living there for the rest of his life.

Alas, as this was a "lightning tour", we did not have time to look into the museum. But the smell of cooking bacon at the restaurant was hard to pass up!
