Jazz In The Afternoon

Chores finished, it was time to wander around the Jazz Festival area and watch and listen to the performances. And this map shows how close we were!

Main Stage - Scene General Motors

This stage was set up in the intersection of Rue Sainte-Catherine and Rue Jeanne-Mance, to the south west of the Place des Arts, the centre of the festival. Needless to say, this required closing the intersection, and both streets for a block or two. But the crowds would have required that anyway!

The main stage, with the group "Soledad",

Soledad in close up. They are five classically trained musicians from Brussels who perform "Tango Nuevo" with passion. My notes say "unusual but good".

The crowd watching Soledad. This is looking roughly north east, into the Place des Arts, from Rue Sainte-Catherine. The circular building (with green top) on the left of this photo is the main theatre at Place des Arts (Salle Wilfrid-Pelletier de la Place des Arts). This evening's concert, with Sonny Rollins, took place in there. Later concerts were in the tiered building in the centre, called the Theatre Maisonneuve de la Place des Arts. Rue Sainte-Cahterine is on the right hand edge of the photo.

The view along Rue Sainte-Catherine during Soledad's performance. The building on the right is part of "Complexe Desjardins", where there was a musical instrument exhibition, and the "School for Jazz".

One of the Complexe Desjardins entrances (this one on Rue Sainte-Catherine). This is certainly "Festival Central"
