The morning was overcast, with even a hint of rain! Quite a (somewhat pleasant) change from the last few days. We had a noon departure by bus for Montreal, so that left a little time for more photographs!
I could see an obelisk, or rather the top of it, from my room at the Chateau Frontenac. So now seemed a good day to check it out. And there's a plaque at the front with the explanation of why this is for both Wolfe and Montcalm, the British and French generals killed in the battle, just outside the city walls, for control of Canada. The top part of the Chateau Frontenac is visible on the far right. My room was in that section. The park here is Jardins des Gouvernours or Governor's Gardens.
Looking along Dufferin Terrace towards the Chateua Frontenac, and also downstream on the Saint Lawrence River, which is not very visible on the far right. The above obelisk is to the left of this image.
Looking along Dufferin Terrace from under one of the rotundas located along the Terrace.
Looking in the other direction from the same rotunda as above. The Citadel is in the far distance (flying the flag). The buildings on the right include another hotel.
The Dufferin Terrace is being rebuilt. And it's also an archealogical site, as it covers the site of Chateau St. Louis, the building here before Chateau Frontenac, and I *think* the former residence of the governor. The building at the far end with the green and white roof is the top end of the Funicular from the Lower Town.
