And found this cafe in a little street off Via Nazionale, where Peter and Yvonne bought me a coffee, and we enjoyed some typical Roman street activity as we watched the world go by.
A view across Piazza della Repubblica towards the Basilica of Santa Maria Degli Angeli as we were walking to the Termini.
From here we continued onto the Termini to await the rest of the family. Not surprisingly, the traffic chaos resulting from the lack of Metro service delayed the arrival from Ciampino. So we just hung around the station, trying to find some shade and not be too bored.
When they arrived we adjourned to our hotel, where we went our separate ways for a while. I caught up with the regular sort of traveller's chores, and also started reading about Florence and the sort of things to do there.
We then had a quiet family afternoon of snacking and drinking in the park just down the street before preparing for ...
We were welcomed at the entrance by a "Roman Centurion" and photographer. Do you think this might be a tourist restaurant? However, the meal was quite enjoyable, and we all had a great time. And the added bonus was the singers who serenaded the diners, and just happened to have a CD available. They were OK as singers, but mostly sang from opera, and that does not generally appeal to me. So, no sale.
And we had one benefit of the Metro strike. Restrictons on bus stopping with city limits was removed for the duration, so we stopped and looked at the Trevi Fountain on the way to dinner.
After we were full, the bus returned us to the hotel for a good night's sleep.
