Day 3 - Muses In The Round

The Room Of The Muses

Leaving the outdoors our tour entered the Room of the Muses named for the seven statues of the muses featured here, including the leader Apollo which is now just a torso, residing in the middle of the room. The torso is a first century BC fragment, signed by the Athenian Apollonius.

The Greek Cross Room

Sarcophageus of Emperor Constantine's wife.

The major attraction in this room is the two porphyry sarcophagii. This is the one for St. Helen, the mother of the Emperor Constantine. The other (decorated differently) is for the emperor's daughter.
