These photos were taken during the May school holidays on a trip from Sydney to Adelaide along the Murray River and thence back along the Victorian coast through Melbourne and on to Canberra. While the location of the photographs was recorded at the time (I did it!), that documentation has been lost. Thus, some of the locations are unknown, and possibly were even at the time, given some of the photos. Google Images helped to locate some locations.
Resuming the journey from Mildura ...
The Murray River at Renmark, South Australia.. It has become quite a broad river by this stage.
An irrigation canal at Berri, South Australia. Autumn colours are on display on the left.
On The Road Again comes to mind here - most likely on the Sturt Highway between Kingston and Waikerie. Note the old telephone wires (pairs) on the poles along the left hand side. AND the lack of traffic while standing in the middle of what is probably a main road and taking a photo!
The new, really new, bridge at Blanchtown crossing the Murray River. My notes say that it was opened by Sir Thomas Playford on May 24th, 1964 - probably just a day or so before this photo was taken. The bridge cost ₤150,000, not including the approaches.
Ah, looking north shows grape vines on the distant hill - must be nearing the Barossa Valley!
Looks like a storm is coming - nearing the Barossa Valley.
Ah, autumn is definitely on the way as the grape vines are preparing to shed their leaves for winter. Clearly we are now in South Australia's Barossa Valley.
