From Vernon Circle Looking South East

1964 2014

The 1964 photo includes the YMCA building (serrated roof, in foreground). There's a white structure protuding above the roof near the left hand end. That was the clue which the Canberra Historical Society keyed in on - it's the Civic Swimming Pool's diving tower, which is still there today. The YMCA building has long gone, as this is the closest that the city centre approaches Lake Burley Griffin, and so is likely very valuable real estate now.

This is looking roughly SE over Nerang Pool and towards the Kings Avenue bridge.
