It was a surprise seeing this bridge closed to traffic, with a newer one
adjacent. After some searching, it appears that the 50 years + 1 month
bridge was determined to be unsafe for B-double trucks. Exactly what was
thought to be unsafe was not stated. A guess would be the loading,
but it may also have been width, as walking onto this bridge made it
appear rather narrow for a major road.
