Peter's 70th Birthday at Kangaroo Valley
Peter's 70th birthday was celebrated with family and friends at Camp David in Kangaroo Valley. A total of 3 nights for family members; the friends were day visitors.
Peter's 70th birthday came up this year, so it was worth celebrating in some style. Kelly started the planning well in advance - a surprise party to be held in beautiful Kangaroo Valley, about 2 hours drive south of Sydney. The event was to be a 4 day/3 night stay at Camp David which is a 5 bedroom self-catered facility located a short distance from the town of Kangaroo Valley.
The hardest part was keeping the surprise - especially with 5 grandchildren ranging from 2 to 10 years old! Cooper announced that he would say "We are not going to Kangaroo Valley", but was quickly made to understand that even that was giving the secret away.
Yvonne told Peter they had a booking for a few quiet days away in the Southern Highlands, so they planned a leisurely drive down the South Coast, taking a few "always wanted to go to ..." detours along the way. So off they set at a slow pace.
Meanwhile, the rest of us scrambled! Kelly did the food shopping; Keiran called in to my place to collect the wine and some extra beds the night before, as I wanted to ride down, and well those things don't fit well on a motorcycle.
After Peter and Yvonne left, Keiran left a little while later - wouldn't want them to return and find him missing. Kelly, Glenn, Tynan, Cooper and Lily were on the road, as was Michelle, Jake and Flynn, and then I departed too.
Our booking opened at noon and ran until 3PM Sunday. The plan was to arrive a little after noon. I arrived first, followed by Keiran a few minutes later, then Kelly and company a few minutes after that. Michelle was a little later due to confusion of the location. And we came different routes - Keiran took the M5/Hume Highway to Moss Vale then down into the valley; Kelly and Michelle came down the highway to Berry and over the mountain (great views, poor/narrow road) and I took the highway to Albion Park, up Macquarie Pass then joined the Moss Vale/Nowra road down into the valley. [Macquarie Pass is a great motorcycle road - the GPS choose it anyway!]
